Traffic Source Verification: Getting Approved Faster

November 25, 20254 min read

Before your placements can start receiving advertiser traffic, your sources (websites) must pass verification. This process protects the entire ecosystem - advertisers get real traffic, legitimate publishers don't compete with fraud, and the platform maintains its reputation. Here's how to breeze through verification.

Why Verification Exists

Source verification serves multiple purposes:

For Advertisers

  • Ensures traffic comes from real, legitimate websites
  • Reduces fraud and bot traffic in the network
  • Provides confidence in traffic quality

For Publishers

  • Legitimate publishers don't compete with fraudsters
  • Higher overall network CPMs due to advertiser trust
  • Protects your reputation from association with bad actors

For the Platform

  • Maintains network quality standards
  • Builds advertiser confidence
  • Enables sustainable growth

What We Verify

1. Domain Ownership

You must prove you control the domain. We offer three verification methods:

  • DNS TXT Record - Add a specific TXT record to your domain's DNS settings. Most reliable method, recommended for technical users.
  • File Upload - Upload a verification file to your website's root directory (e.g., yoursite.com/poptrade-verify.txt)
  • Meta Tag - Add a meta tag to your homepage's HTML head section

2. Content Quality

Your website should demonstrate:

  • Original content - Not scraped, spun, or duplicated from other sites
  • Substantial material - More than just a few pages of thin content
  • Regular updates - Shows the site is actively maintained
  • Clear purpose - Visitors should understand what the site offers
  • Working navigation - Users can browse the site normally

3. Traffic Legitimacy

If your site already has traffic, we analyze:

  • Geographic distribution - Does it match the site's language/niche?
  • Device mix - Realistic ratio of desktop/mobile
  • Behavioral patterns - Session duration, bounce rates, pages per visit
  • Known bot signatures - Checking against fraud databases

4. Technical Standards

  • No malware - Site must be clean of viruses, trojans, etc.
  • No malicious scripts - No cryptocurrency miners, keyloggers, etc.
  • Working pages - Minimal 404 errors and broken links

Prohibited Content

The following will result in automatic rejection:

  • Illegal content - Drugs, weapons, stolen goods
  • Copyright infringement - Pirated movies, music, software
  • Malware distribution - Any malicious downloads
  • Phishing or scams - Fake login pages, get-rich-quick schemes
  • Hate speech - Content promoting discrimination or violence
  • Child exploitation - Zero tolerance policy
  • Deceptive practices - Fake download buttons, misleading content

Tips for Fast Approval

Before Submitting

  1. Complete your profile - Verified email, all fields filled
  2. Prepare domain verification - Set up DNS or file before applying
  3. Check your content - Remove any questionable material
  4. Install SSL - HTTPS sites get priority and faster review
  5. Fix broken pages - Clean up 404s and dead links

During Review

  1. Keep site online - Don't make major changes during review
  2. Monitor email - Respond quickly to any verification questions
  3. Be patient - Don't submit multiple times (it slows things down)

Verification Timeline

  • Standard review: 24-48 hours for most sites
  • Complex cases: Up to 5 business days for sites needing deeper review
  • Resubmission: 24-48 hours after fixing issues

If Your Source is Rejected

Don't panic - many rejections are for fixable issues:

Common Issues and Solutions

  • DNS not propagated - Wait 24-48 hours for DNS changes to spread globally, then retry
  • Site under construction - Add more content before resubmitting
  • Traffic concerns - Provide Google Analytics access for manual review
  • Content issues - Remove problematic pages and resubmit
  • Technical problems - Fix malware warnings, SSL issues, or broken pages

Appealing a Decision

If you believe your rejection was a mistake:

  1. Contact support with your source URL
  2. Explain why you believe the site qualifies
  3. Provide any additional documentation
  4. Wait for manual review (typically 2-3 business days)

After Approval

Once verified, your source is ready for placements:

  • Create placements immediately
  • Source maintains verified status unless violations occur
  • Adding new placements to verified source doesn't require re-verification

Verification is a one-time hurdle that opens the door to monetization. Prepare properly, and you'll be approved in no time.
